Monday Nov 11, 2019
Monday Nov 11, 2019
In this episode Bri and Kim talk about their own personal birth stories. Their expectations, their struggles and their realizations of what its like to be the mothers of two very Wayward Daughters.
***A warning to those who are about to have a baby: these stories might not be the best thing to listen to directly before pushin'. They are tough stories, with very happy endings.

My first pregnancy was called a molar pregnancy, which was a form of miscarriage that had never heard of. It basically meant that I was at risk of developing cancer from my pregnancy. I was not allowed to get pregnant again for a year, and I had to have monthly testing to make sure that my hormone levels had not risen, because that would be a sign that I had the cancer. When I was finally cleared, I was pregnant again about four months later. I was due July 1st 2003, and everything was fine until about late May. My plug came out on a Monday morning, and I began to worry. The doctors told me not to worry, that everything was fine, and then it was normal for the plug to come out early. on Tuesday, I started having small contractions, which the doctors told me was just braxton-hicks, and I shouldn't worry. by Thursday, I set my husband down and told him to get ready, because I was pretty sure this baby was coming. The next morning, Friday morning, very early, I rolled over in bed and squished in the puddle. My water had broken, and I raced to the bathroom. I got on the phone with my hospital and my doctor, and they kept asking me if I knew for sure that my water has broken. I told them, I wasn't urinating, but there was a lot of water coming out of me, so I was pretty freaking sure. I was admitted to the hospital at 3 am. At 6 a.m. the doctor came in to check on me, said "uh oh," and disappeared again. She came back with a portable ultrasound, and said the words I will never forget, "I hate when I'm right." my son, who was six and a half weeks early, was also breech. They rushed me to the OR for an emergency C-section. He was born just after 7 am.

I had two c-sections... I've never gotten to push. I feel jilted but I'm just glad they're healthy.

My wife had an epidural with all 4 of children, which caused her to be cold from the waist down. Her room was a birthing room that had a blanket warmer, so neat. My main job was holding her left leg, doing whatever the doctor told me, and not freaking out.
