My autistic son lives with his father in another state, and the past few years my husband and I have traveled there and spent the holidays with my ex and his wife and their families. This year my ex and I coordinated so that our son could come to MY house for Christmas. It was small, just me, my husband, and my son, and it was quiet, not traditional in any way, but it was wonderful.

Right before the holidays I had a nasty fight with my "made" family. It was so tense and i had a whole bunch of four letter words to say.. but I have to say, there are so many times when I was so exhausted and frustrated, and my kids' face made it all worth it. We are still trying to piece together our situation, but I'm doing my best to give my kids what I never had.

Thank you, so very much, for this! I lost my only family, my mom, last September. Christmas was her favorite, and since I was still in shock last year, this one feels like the first w/out her. Add to that, my deluded hubby expected me to "fill that hole" with his family, who don't act like it the other 364 days of the year. I'm listening to y'all at our beach condo, alone, to avoid a breakdown and hurting their feelings, and I'll go home late tonight, to be with just hubby & kids! And the "family" I've made for myself, many through the show & the band, have been the ones to check on me & keep me going💜 So grateful for them, you amazing ladies, and the crazy circumstances that brought us all together!
