My first period was just like that. I knew what a period was but there was so much blood I thought something was seriously wrong! And I was 12 and in school at the time.....I am now 24, on birth control and only now is it really starting to regulate itself. I love talking about my period and we all need to become more open in talking about it!

I was 12, and my first wasn't the little bit of spotting they told us about in health class. It was like something out of a horror movie. My periods were 7-9 days of horror-movie bloodbaths for much of my life; I'd wear super plus tampons WITH super plus pads and still go through multiple changes daily. It wasn't until I discovered Mirena in my 30s that I finally got some relief (aside from my pregnancy). An uncomfortable topic for many but so necessary. It is NOT shameful. Thank you, awesome ladies! ❤

I love that you guys are open to talking about this. I apologise in advance for the short novel I'm about to write... The other big issue around periods is what types of products are and are not good to use. I've spoken to a pelvic floor specialist and it floored me when she told me never to use Always branded pads because it sucks your vagina so dry that the normal mucus that's supposed to be there is gone too. No one tells us these things! It's not something many women talk about with their girlfriends. Women's health issues are topics that are still so uncomfortable for many women and things are sometimes just "accepted" as normal, like painful periods or bladder leaks as you age. Women do not need to just accept this, and conversations should be had around it to see if things can change. Most women don't know that if they're having incontinence issues ( peeing when you laugh or cough or run) that you can see a physiotherapist about it! It is NOT a normal part of aging. Get your pelvic floor checked out rather than add bladder pads to your daily wardrobe. Anyway, thanks for being a platform to talk about these things! You two are really great.

All the love for this! We need more open discussions about periods. When I was at school, needing to leave class etc, it was always *hushed voice* "girl problems" instead of being able to say "I'm on my period, can I go to the bathroom please?". Like, we were actually taught that! It's ridiculous. So much shame being taught from such a young age can't be healthy. Love you guys loads 😘❤️

I totally remember the period hammocks, Kim! And you're both absolutely right about the need to destigmatize this topic.
