I had never heard the "nonspeaking" vs. nonverbal terminology, but it makes so much sense. My son is speaking, but his autism and a very difficult elementary school experience have thus far made it difficult for him to get beyond concrete expressions. In recent years he has been in a more supportive school, and he seems to finally be finding his voice, and I am always so excited to speak with him (I'm a long-distance mom, that's a whole other heartbreak) because I'm finally hearing what he has struggled so long to convey to us. ❤️

I absolutely loved this episode. This past week, the topic of communication keeps coming up in so many contexts. It occurred to me to ask, wouldn't it be awesome if you had Shoshannah on as a guest for part 2 of this conversation? [Insert rabbit hole of checking Podbean's capabilities and if/how other podcasts make their content accessible for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing here.] Then it occurred to me to volunteer to a) transcribe this episode and b) try to gather some Wayward fans to help transcribe past & future episodes. How does any of that sound to you?
