Want to know everything there is to know about how the female body works? Go somewhere else. We have no idea what we're talking about. BUT THAT WONT SHUT US UP.

I grew up in a family that talked openly about sex, periods and used proper terms. My husband did not. In raising our 3 children he has been a big supporter of doing my family’s way. He has his reasons, but they are his to share not mine. My mother in law once tried to tell my son that penis is a bad word. Which lead to an argument that ended with me reminding her he’s my child not hers and I make the decisions about which terms we will be using to name body parts and “private parts” will be known as penis, vagina, breast and bums. Oh and that poops can be call poops or bowel moments but not grumpys because grumpy is an emotion not a bodily function. Anyway I’m happy that strong women are out there calling society out on the ridiculousness of not talking about normal, healthy, while admittedly annoying, and miraculous parts of life.

It took me years to figure out 2 week periods weren't normal because me and my mom never talked about it and didnt go over much more than when you start bleeding use this. Thank you ladies!

A book that taught me so much about how the female reproductive system works is "taking charge of your fertility" by toni weschler. My mind was blown when I read it in my 20's. It's was like...why the hell wasn't this explained in highschool?

So first off, 13 isn't late. I started with 13 too and it's totally normal. I had a friend who started at 9 and wow did I feel bad for her. I like that we are talking about that special topic. Thank you so much for sharing.

I, at 21, have an IUD to stop my periods. They were so inconsistent that I was literally terrified to go anywhere. My worse was four full periods in one month. It was awful. But I'm so glad you guys are talking about this stuff. I completely agree that saying the name decreases the fear of it. Keep being amazing!!

My first period: sixth grade, white pants. Fun day! Also in the not allowed to use tampons group; my Bestie kand her mom) aided me in an elaborate plot to make sure the pads my mom bought disappeared but I was actually using tampons from the beginning of 8th grade when I met Bestie.
